2008 - Thoroughly Modern Millie
Encore Youth Theatre's 27th production was the sizzling Broadway hit, Thoroughly Modern Millie.
Based on the 1967 Oscar winning film, Thoroughly Modern Millie is hilarious high-energy family entertainment, with vivacious dancing, romance, and sparkling music, completely capturing the mood of the roaring Twenties.
Over 40 members from Winchester, Eastleigh and Southampton, experienced all the fun and hard work that goes into putting on all singing, all dancing spectacular, many of them returning after last year's award-winning production of Return to the Forbidden Planet.
For one company member, it was his 10th year with Encore. Doug Revolta from Winchester had been with the company since the tender age of six when he appeared as an evacuee in Blitz! Over the years, Doug played many lead roles including the smallest Mikado ever in Hot Mikado, Captain Tempest in Return to the Forbidden Planet and Bobby Child in Crazy for You. Doug won the National Operatic and Dramatic Association Accolade of Excellence for Most Promising Male in a Youth Production for this role.
Doug, a former pupil of Westgate School and Peter Symmonds College, said:
"Encore has been like a family to me and I would like to thank everyone involved. It has made me the person I am today and given me a passion for the theatre, which will continue into my future."
